According to the research, 73 percent of Android devices run on the Gingerbread OS or an Android 2.3 variant. Froyo, also known as Android 2.2, gobbles another large slice of the pie with 23 percent. Meanwhile, 61 percent of Android devices have 4-or 4.3-inch screens, with 62 percent of Android displays sporting an 800-by-480 resolution. The higher 960-by-540 resolution only maintains a meager 6 percent of screens.

Seriously? Android fragmentation is almost gone because almost 3/4 of devices are using an OS that was released in 2010 and more than half share the same screen resolution?
How do you think the Ice Cream Sandwich transition is going to go? If you’re a developer, how much extra work are you going to have to do to cover the portion of the market that cares to have the latest and greatest? How much work are you going to have to do if your business model requires that you be accessible to as many people as possible? This still seems like a huge problem to me.
